Artificial Nesting Structures
Supporting the installation of the UK’s first nearshore artificial nesting structures for the offshore wind industry.

We are proud to have supported the installation of the first-ever nearshore artificial nesting structures in the UK for the offshore wind industry. Installed along the East Coast of England in the North Sea, these three nesting structures were erected to support a vulnerable seabird species, the black-legged kittiwake, as part of an ecological compensation scheme for the Hornsea 3 offshore wind farm.
The first of their kind in the UK, the structures play an important role in supporting and researching vulnerable species while simultaneously supporting the generation of clean, wind-powered electricity through the Hornsea 3 offshore wind farm – which, when completed, will be the largest of its kind in the world.
Our scope included a double-level pile gate to restrain and guide the pile during installation, with a temporary hanging frame and custom grout seal supporting the jacket during grouting.
