Launch & recovery
Complex deployment
Launching and recovering the loads a standard crane can’t simply place, awkward shapes, heavy loads, long objects that can’t carry their own weight, in a moving sea.

Some loads won’t behave on the end of a hook. A long, slender object isn’t self-supporting and will bend or swing; a fragile sensor package isn’t built to survive being dragged past a moving hull; a heavy item has to be placed precisely, not dropped. We engineer the handling spread around the load and the sea state, so it launches and recovers safely, in motion, every time.
What we engineer
- Variable-geometry & actuated lifting frames – A-frames and LARS that move clear of the work point, roll-over frames that rotate a long item between vertical and horizontal and lattice support frames that lend a long slender object rigidity so it isn’t asked to carry its own bending loads.
- Single-point suspension & buoyancy/centre-of-gravity control – hanging long, slender items at a controlled rake by precalculating ballast and tracking the centre of gravity and buoyancy through the lift – a proven method for non-self-supporting objects.
- Handling in heavy seas & high accelerations – designing for the real motion case, and choosing the right route: a moonpool sits near the vessel’s roll centre with far less heave but tight clearances to guide against; an over-side or stern route gives space but the worst motion, where a few degrees of pitch becomes metres of vertical travel.
- Splash-zone & suction loads – sizing the system for snatch and shock through the splash zone, and for the suction (pull-out) loads a load can see at the seabed, with shock absorption and overload protection built in. See overload protection systems.
- Controlled recovery – locking a recovered item so it can still travel on the hoist without swinging, and engaging small or fragile items subsea into a robust “garage” that takes the bumps and is recovered as one unit.
Designed to the recognised offshore lifting and marine-operations standards (DNV-ST-0378, DNV-ST-N001). Figures and load cases engineered to the duty and confirmed at enquiry.
