Iron roughneck (MMIRN)
A compact, hydraulically driven iron roughneck designed specifically for geotechnical drilling rigs – keeping operators off the drill floor.

Making up and breaking out drill pipe by hand, chains and tongs, is one of the most hazardous jobs on a drill floor and modern HSE expectations increasingly rule it out. Our iron roughneck automates it: it connects and disconnects drill pipe under remote control, to a calibrated torque, removing operators from the danger zone. It was engineered to fill the gap between high cost oil-and-gas roughnecks and non-compliant alternatives, compact, fit-for-purpose and sized for geotechnical rigs.
What it does
- Make & break, remotely – connects and disconnects drill pipe under remote control, removing manual handling of chains and tongs.
- Calibrated, repeatable torque – make-up to a set value, with manual back-up.
- Hardwired safety (no PLC) – full safety interlocking in hardwired logic for robust, inspectable operation.
- Mobilisable – container-mobilisable; designed to suit single- and twin-mast geotechnical rigs, and configurable to a derrick’s structure and height constraints.
