Launch & recovery
Getting equipment safely over the side, down to depth, onto the seabed and back again, when the load is awkward, the water is deep or the placement is hard.

A crane puts a load in the water; launch and recovery is the engineering that makes that safe and repeatable when the load won’t cooperate, too long, too heavy, too fragile or going somewhere deep and difficult. We advise on, design, retrofit, manufacture and commission launch-and-recovery systems across the whole chain, choosing the architecture that fits the vessel and its power budget and building it under single-party accountability. The area divides into three problems:
- Complex deployment – awkward shapes, heavy loads, long non-self-supporting objects and handling in heavy seas and high accelerations.
- Deep-water deployment – the challenges beyond the splash zone: dissipating heat, electric or hydraulic deployment, heave compensation and umbilical tension management.
- Landing, placing & retrieving – soft-landing, placing and recovering objects on the seabed, from our drill touch-down methodology, plus heavy lifts and jacking in difficult places.
- Skidding systems – moving very heavy loads horizontally on a pallet and rail, including mode-change systems and rack-and-pinion sliding doors. Jacking, on its side.
