Handling & deployment
Cranetainer™
A self-contained crane, including integrated power pack in a standard 20ft container footprint – mobilised to a deck in hours, removed when the job’s done, no permanent vessel modification.

The Cranetainer packages a marine crane, its hydraulic power unit and controls into a standard ISO container footprint, so lifting and deployment capability can be added to a vessel deck quickly, repositioned as a campaign changes and removed when it’s done. It ships like a container, sea-fastens simply and is plug-and-play. It’s the same capability domain as our A-frames, launch-and-recovery systems and deck spreads, made modular.
The crane
The standard Cranetainer is built around a Heila HLM25-3S fully foldable marine knuckle-boom crane. Boom-tip capacity runs from 4,940 kg at 4.81 m to 2,200 kg at 10.58 m maximum outreach and its winch holds a constant 2,000 kg across the full outreach. It slews 360° (non-continuous), develops up to 40 kNm of slewing torque and runs on 50 L/min at 240 bar. The crane is operated from a local station or by radio remote, and is designed to ISO 19354:2016 the base, the structural interface and the controls, marinising the installation with a stability and load-limiting control system are all developed for maximum operational functionality. A grab or winch option can be fitted in place of the hook.
Four models
Four configurations, so the same plug-and-play, container-footprint approach covers everything from a quick deck mobilisation to deep-water deployment and bespoke heavy lifts.
1 · Cranetainer 20ft STANDARD PRODUCT FOR SALE
The standard unit: the Heila HLM25-3S crane, HPU and controls engineered onto a full 20ft ISO container footprint, structurally rated for the crane duty and sea-fastening loads. Ships and sea-fastens like a container; set up plug-and-play.
2 · Cranetainer Stowaway STANDARD PRODUCT FOR SALE
The same capability, but packaged to ship inside a standard container rather than as one, with fold-out feet that deploy to a full 20ft container footprint on deck when you need the working base. Easier and cheaper to transport as freight; full Cranetainer footprint in use.
3 · Cranetainer Deepwater STANDARD PRODUCT FOR SALE
The Stowaway configuration with a 1,000 m deep-water umbilical winch installed on the Cranetainer body and a sheave on the crane end, so the crane becomes a deep-water deployment system. It lowers tooling and equipment to depth from a simple, self-contained base, no permanent vessel modification and no separate over-boarding spread. It pairs naturally with our deployable tooling for over-the-side work at depth.
4 · Cranetainer Custom ENGINEERED TO ORDER
A bespoke build for heavier or specialist duties: a larger footprint (20ft, 40ft or two 20ft units side by side) and a larger or smaller crane to suit, up to roughly double the standard crane’s capacity, with a larger crane unit. Same modular, containerised deployment method, engineered to your lift duty, deck interface and operating environment.
Pairs with our deployable tooling
Because the Cranetainer carries its own power, controls and (on Deepwater) deployment winch. It makes light work of putting tooling over the side. It pairs particularly well with our remotely operated grab: the grab is camera-equipped and easily manoeuvred by the Cranetainer’s deployment system, so a vessel can run boulder-removal and similar work without an ROV or ROV-type grab. The Deepwater model extends that reach to depth.
