Airlifting system & agitator head

An airlift spoil-removal system with a powered agitator head, loosening compacted backfill so the airlift can lift it, with a de-aeration hopper to separate the spoil at the surface.

Some material is too compacted, settled or cemented for an airlift to lift on its own, it has to be broken up first. We design airlifting systems built around a powered agitator head: a rotating head that works at the base of the airlift to loosen and break up the spoil, feeding it into the airlift riser. At the surface, a de-aeration hopper separates the airlifted slurry, dropping the solids and venting the air. It’s a complete spoil-removal package, agitation, lift and separation, engineered as one system.

How it works

  • Powered agitator head – a rotating, motor-driven head with a replaceable agitator blade that breaks up compacted or settled material at the base of the airlift; the blade can be fitted with teeth for harder, more aggressive duty.
  • Spring-loaded contact – the head is sprung to maintain controlled contact under its own weight, so it keeps working the face without overloading the bearings.
  • Airlift removal – the loosened material is lifted the riser by the airlift, the proven low-wear way to move abrasive slurry with no pump in the solids path.
  • De-aeration hopper – at the surface, the hopper separates the airlifted slurry – solids out, air vented – so the spoil is delivered clean and managed.

It complements our shaft-clearing clamshell grab and our wider airlifting and spoil-removal engineering, where the grab digs and lifts in discrete bites, the agitator-airlift continuously works and removes compacted material.
