OLPS™ – Overload Protection Systems
Two independent layers of load protection for heave-compensated, draw-works and line-tensioner systems, new-build or retrofit.

OLPS protects winches, draw-works and line tensioners from both sustained and sudden overload, in two independent layers so a single failure cannot leave the line unprotected.
How it works
- Sustained overload protection – monitors line load and automatically pays out to reduce tension when the limit is exceeded, holding the system inside its safe working envelope without operator intervention.
- Hydraulic shock-load protection – a dedicated cylinder relieves sudden tensile peaks (snatch loads from heave, slack-and-snap or sudden hang-ups) and re-sets automatically once the peak passes.
Because the two layers act on different physics, slow, sustained tension versus fast transient peaks. They cover the full range of overload events a line can see offshore. OLPS is available across a range of cylinder strokes and capacities, with optional remote data logging so loads can be reviewed after the operation.
Where it fits
OLPS is the protection layer of our heave-control family, working alongside Active Heave Assist (AHA) and our constant-tension winch control (ACT). It retrofits to existing equipment as readily as it integrates into a new build.
